Communication

What is good communication?

At its heart, effective communication is based on a shared understanding. A two-way process, it not only swaps ideas but creates and shares meaning so we can reach a mutual understanding.

As with all behavioural skills, it can be tricky and messily human. But it’s a skill we can all learn and improve. For business leaders it’s essential. Bad communication wastes time, saps motivation, reduce productivity and costs businesses vast amounts of money.

Active Listening Forum Theatre
(RADA Business)

We’ll take a forensic approach to how we interact with others. You’ll explore and practice different questioning techniques to open up conversations, dig into what is being said, and get to the crux of the matter. You’ll practice being present and active receivers of that information. Working in small groups, you’ll receive instant feedback on the quality and accuracy of your listening. The focus is on your ability to really hear what is being said, verbally and non-verbally. The session includes a performance by professional actors bringing to life good and bad interactions in a humorous fashion.

Learning outcomes - this immersive experience will allow you to:
  • Rehearse different questioning techniques that get to the heart of the matter.

  • Develop your confidence to follow your curiosity with ease and dexterity.

  • Refresh and practise your active listening skills.

Pursuing curious questions
(RADA Business)

Dare to dig deeper will be the provocation for the session, encouraging you to fearlessly explore what lies beneath the surface. You’ll investigate how to overcome the barriers that prevent us from actively pursuing our curiosity. By #rst noticing how our own behaviours can get in our way, you can then take their focus out towards others. Using the characters from the previous masterclass, you’ll investigate, interrogate and identify the route of their behaviours and work with them towards a more positive outcome.

Learning outcomes - this immersive experience will allow you to:
  • Develop a greater level of self-awarenes as to the root of behaviours.

  • Explore different levels of listening to hear what’s being said, and what’s not.

  • Apply elements of curiosity towards solving a workplace issue.

Influence and Gravitas
(RADA Business)

A forum theatre performance kick starts this session on influencing. Shining a light on the conscious and unconscious ways we seek to influence others, we invite you to get curious about how we can move others to action. Able to stop the scene at any moment, you’ll actively give feedback to the actors and change the scene’s course towards a more positive outcome. You’ll experiment with different choices to examine how you can connect and influence more effectively, in a playful, low-risk environment.

Learning outcomes - this immersive experience will allow you to:
  • Understand and interrogate how behaviour impacts our messages.

  • Make positive, conscious choices in how we influence others.

  • Recognise power dynamics and !ex status behaviours to meet the situation, including when influencing upwards.
