Invite your 11-plus students to take part in Speakers for Schools’ Green Skills Week in April 2021 and discover green careers.

Taking place in April 2021, the Green Skills Week initiative is part of the charity’s campaign to support the government’s Green Industrial Revolution, while helping to tackle the unemployment crisis, and future proofing the next generation in a post-COVID economy.

What are green skills?

Green skills are those which enable us to lead more sustainably in terms of how we live, work and play. The UK has set a target to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2050. Green skills and green jobs are not just in scientific research, engineering and renewable energy. Finance, IT, business consultancy and legal careers will also see increased demand to support Britain’s net zero ambitions. Educating young people about green skills and engaging them about the career possibilities is a key factor in helping to foster a sustainable world.

Virtual talks from green industry leaders

The campaign will kickstart with a series of virtual talks by leaders from key industries in the 10-point plan, ranging from science and nature to construction, technology, travel and public policy.

Green work experience placements

During the Easter holiday, young people will attend virtual insight days, take part in work experience placements and explore pathways from professionals in industries such as electric vehicle manufacturing, agroforestry, advanced fuels and nuclear energy.

Virtual information days for schools, colleges and universities

In light of the Lifetime Skills Guarantee, Speakers for Schools is also partnering with universities, colleges and apprenticeship providers to run virtual information days on the relevant progression opportunities within the green economy.
