The Business Transformation Manager Programme is a strong management pathway for organisations that need colleagues to manage stakeholder-heavy change and deliver practical transformation projects.
It provides a recognised, levy-funded route for developing management capability through real improvement and transformation work and is a practical successor option where employers previously used the Level 5 Operations Manager pathway.
Participants build management and transformation capability across six connected areas needed to shape, manage and deliver successful change.
Organisations use the programme to develop colleagues who can manage change more confidently and turn organisational priorities into structured, deliverable transformation activity.
Organisations need managers who can do more than maintain existing operations. They increasingly need people who can engage stakeholders, improve how work gets done and help transformation projects move from intention to delivery.
The Business Transformation Manager Programme combines practical management development with structured approaches to discovery, process improvement, requirements gathering and change delivery. Participants apply these skills to a live workplace project, creating visible organisational value while building recognised capability.
The real constraint with professional development is rarely funding — it is time.
Our programmes are designed to work with the flow of real work, not compete with it.
Participants typically commit around four hours per week, combining structured learning, coaching and applied missions directly linked to their role.
This ensures development strengthens day-to-day performance while building capability for the future.
The programme runs over 14 months and combines 12 applied curriculum missions with interactive learning events, coach-facilitated study groups, one-to-one coaching and final assessment preparation. Participants apply the learning to a real organisational change or transformation project throughout the programme. Download the programme prospectus for more detail.
Participants apply new skills directly to their role through structured monthly missions linked to real organisational priorities.

The Level 4 Business Analyst Apprenticeship develops professionals who investigate business situations, analyse problems and opportunities, define requirements and support successful business and digital change.
The Business Transformation Manager Programme is FTL’s management and transformation pathway, delivered through the Level 4 Business Analyst Apprenticeship. It develops the practical management, stakeholder and structured change capability needed to improve processes, shape solutions and deliver transformation successfully.
The programme is designed for managers and professionals who support or deliver business change, operational improvement, customer-journey improvement or transformation projects.
Relevant roles include operations and service managers, project and delivery professionals, change specialists, business analysts and process-improvement colleagues. Participants do not need to have Business Analyst in their job title.
It combines both. The Level 4 Business Analyst Apprenticeship provides a structured framework for investigating problems, gathering requirements, analysing processes and shaping evidence-led recommendations.
FTL builds on this with practical management development in communication, stakeholder engagement, facilitation, judgement, prioritisation, collaboration and change delivery.
Managing transformation requires colleagues to align stakeholders, assess competing priorities, make evidence-led decisions and help new ways of working land successfully.
The programme develops these management capabilities through a real change or transformation project, making it a practical pathway for people who manage work, projects, stakeholders and improvement activity, whether or not they directly manage a team.
It can provide a strong successor pathway for employers that previously used the Level 5 Operations Manager Apprenticeship to develop colleagues responsible for change, improvement and stakeholder-heavy work.
The programme develops management capability through structured transformation activity rather than through a conventional operational line-management route.
Each participant applies the programme to a relevant business change, improvement or transformation project.
Projects might include improving a customer journey, redesigning a process, investigating an operational problem, gathering stakeholder requirements, assessing potential solutions or supporting the implementation of a new way of working. The project must provide sufficient scope to develop and evidence the apprenticeship knowledge, skills and behaviours.
The programme runs for 14 months, followed by end-point assessment.
Participants require approximately four hours of protected learning time per week. This includes structured learning and applied activity linked directly to their real workplace project, making it one of the most time-efficient delivery models in the sector.
Yes. Participants explore how approved AI tools can support research, problem analysis, synthesis, stakeholder communication and evidence-led decision-making.
