About Stephen Isherwood

Stephen Isherwood has been a driving force in early talent development for over a decade. As Chief Executive of the ISE since 2013, he has shaped employer strategies for recruiting and developing young talent, with a strong emphasis on apprenticeships and Early Years upskilling.

With extensive experience managing school leaver and graduate development programmes in both the private and public sectors, Stephen has worked closely with educators and employers to bridge the gap between education and employment. He is dedicated to ensuring that apprenticeship schemes provide young people with the skills, knowledge and opportunities needed to thrive in the modern workforce.

Beyond his role at the ISE, Stephen is deeply involved in shaping the future of early careers. He serves as a Governor of Harlow College, an Enterprise Advisor for Roding Valley High School, and a trustee of the London Interdisciplinary School Foundation. His expertise is sought after by leading universities, advisory groups, and policymakers and he frequently speaks at conferences, parliamentary committees, and media engagements to advocate for high-quality early years upskilling.

Stephen is passionate about ensuring that apprenticeships and early careers programmes are not just pathways into work but powerful tools for long-term professional success.
